MOSCOW Russia is ready to assist the United States in dealing with the damage caused by hurricane Katrina, which has taken 68 lives so far and left behind a tremendous amount of devastation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to U.S. President George Bush Tuesday.
"Russia deeply sympathizes with Americans, who faced a disaster of such a colossal scale, and is ready to offer necessary assistance," Putin said.
Putin asked Bush to extend his condolences to families and relatives of those killed in the disaster.
"Accept my sincere words of regret in connection with the natural calamity in the USA. I know that hurricane Katrina, which swept the southeast coast of the country, resulted in deaths, left tens of thousands of Americans without roofs over their heads, and caused substantial damage to the region's economy," the message said. /RIA Novosti/

I dont want to sound mean and unappreciative of some Russians who genuinely want to help, but I mean that country wouldnt even EXIST if we didnt bail them out, and yet the STILL stab us in the back on major strategic foreign policy. $200 Billion for 2 measly cargoplanes and arming Iran. Yeah, thanks red bear government.

The day after the tsunami hit Indonesia the world was criticizing President Bush for slow response.
In all honesty, the rest of the world can suck eggs as far as I am concerned. When I watched our Military perform some breathtaking rescues yesterday I was in awe. We don't need no stinking help from anyone.
In world emergencies America is always first to call with condolences and prayers. I have yet to hear Europe or Canada has even picked up a telephone.

something like $200 BILLION dollars to rebuild their country? Actually no, the IMF gave something like $70 billion to Yeltsin and the Oligarchs in loans (which they promptly stole) and Putin's government has already paid off that debt.
But thankfully you don't represent US opinion in showing others gratitude for their help. Nice to have adults in charge of the country.

Why are you thanking Germany? Their papers are full of "It's all the US's fault". They think we brought it all on ourselves with Glow Ball Verming.

Thank you Russia. I will remember this offer of help from them. I hope Bush takes them up on it, as well as anyone else who can help.

This is their vacation month. IIRC, they don't even check in on the elderly they leave behind in historically hot weather. Maybe after they return. I don't even know if the EU is open for business till next Monday! August is the "golden" month of vacation for Europe and most of the world.

I saw a Fox News Alert earlier that Germany was to help in the aftermath of Katrina. Sadly, so far, I have been unable to confirm their alert. If I am unable to confirm the report, I apologize in advance.

Bear up, people! Get all the boats and helicopters there! I wish we've sent more than one plane with personnel and equipment.

Monetary figures I offered no basis in fact (bad memory) apologize to all. Never claimed to represent entire US opinion and thank you for encouraging me to be more grateful for Russian assistance.

When I was stationed in Germany, it was always amazing to see an entire nation shut down for month and the traffic jams on the roads as an entire nation migrated to the beaches.

We should let Russia send some troops to deal with the looters. The problem would be solved very quickly.
