MSNBC quoted the state of Mississippi as saying they estimated only 1/3rd of the permanent residents of Biloxi evacuated before the storm.

How many were left within a mile of the coastline?

"1 mile"?

One place had full cargo containers 2 miles from shore. :(

In that piece on MSNBC they were saying that all the tourists got out and that there were about 28k regular residents of Biloxi, of those approx. 30% evacuated. As I think of the video we have been seeing of Biloxi there have not been that many people around. There would have been 20K+/- people left.

That would be just Biloxi. US90 runs the coast from Pass Christian to Biloxi and it is almost all one beachfront community after another. Everybody lives within a mile or so of the beach, it was the point of living there on the coast. Ocean Springs is just arcoss the bridge east of Biloxi, I lived there in the early eighties.
