Actually, I think you both are remembering the good and forgetting other stuff. FR has always had...ahem...spirited debate. At least, as long as I can recall.

And the religion threads were by far the toughest! In many ways, they still are.

Also, we had a clearer target then: Clinton. When all else failed, we could always spew some bile at him and his cronies.
