I guess they aren't afraid of being judged by God in the same merciful way.

Like I said, these things happen to the just and the unjust together... because of the unjust. It's the law of unintended consequences.

However, just because someone receives judgement rightly is no reason not to help them recover.

Pray for them AND help them recover.

Though, in some special cases, God says to have NOTHING to do with some particularly evil and rebellious sorts. That tends to be a rare thing.
