"She heard it from one person but doesnt remember who it was."

Doesn't matter. Your Mom could pick any one of a number of loony left.
Yesterday some newbie was hand wringing that GWB could get impeached. We were joshing that could not happen, as GW is currently standing trial for global warning. It would be double jeopardy...;)

"2 tons of bodies. A pickup truck load." Dude, that must be one of those $100K International pickups to handle a load like that.

But you may notice there's no reason to believe that this assistant to the coroner would now, 12 hours later, be unaware of the thousands of dead in the killer trees or the entire families who neatly stacked themselves up in groups on the beach. You would think that our intrepid anonymous rescuer might have phoned the coroner's office with a body count or to verify where to put the dead bodies, wouldn't you?

Absolutely pathetic. 'killer trees'. 'intrepid anonymous rescuer'. Sir, some of our fellow countrymen have drowned as they were swimming in flood waters and got hung up and dragged under by trees. Please have some respect. I am bailing hoping to find some civility. Later.

"The DUmmies will blame Bush no matter what. "

Agreed. Sometimes politics have nothing to do with it. If Kerry were sitting in the Oval office I wouldn't think for a second that he was somehow at fault. In fact, I'd be slightly inclined to ignore any minor flubs in the interests of not being an a-hole during a national crisis. Sometimes patriotism is knowing when to shut up.

Your sarcasm in the face of this cataclysmic event is beyond the pale.

When you enter Black Helicopter territory, we have left reality far behind us...

Wrong; I am closely associated with the workings of Law Enforcement. Withholding information is routinely done, every day; I know, because Law Enforcement dispatches that I see and hear are withheld, for the very reasons I just cited.

Your reality is obviously a fictional account.

You seem to think that anonymously posting a hearsay account is more reliable than our vulturous national media. You will recall that on 9/11, they didn't shut off the cameras. Plenty to horrify there too. They're liberals, sure, but their most basic attribute is that they are vultures. And they're hungry for ratings.

You need look no further than California - they'll break in with live coverage of standoffs, car chases, etc., because they are playing to the mob, and the mob wants death and destruction.

If they could produce footages of hundreds of bodies of children or elderly folks floating somewhere, they would do it, and their ratings would go up.

Like a friend of mine said this morning (we were watching the news and saw some footage of bodies), there's not much difference between showing a body or two or three bodies, and a hundred, two hundred, five hundred. It's all numbers at that point.

We saw this with the Tsunami, and your example of 9/11 is the probably the best example of this. Rather than give people dignity, they'd rather show them plummeting to their deaths for 24 hours, and then turn around and say "out of respect for the families, we won't show any more".

I must have missed the part about bodies being "neatly grouped on the beach"? Could you please provide that actual line from the original?

Look I obviously see you have an axe to grind here. I would not come on in the middle of a national tragedy and create some ficticious phone call. We waited for well over 24-hours for this phone call to come in. When it did...I literally typed out what he was telling me so I would not forget anything.

These were his words and what he saw. I have known this man for nearly 15 years and we speak on a daily basis.

His word is gold and what he told me was going on in the parts of Mississippi is what I posted right here on FR. If you think for a second that I would come on here and just start throwing numbers and scenarios around for the hell of it....then you need to look deeper into your soul and realize that not everybody is out to give a dramatic histrionic filled story.

I 100% stand by the phone call and what was said. He went down there and put his own life and continues to do so at risk from Georgia.

Nuff said.

Isn't THAT the truth. Unfortunately, it's an art that has been lost.

"But this report, still unsubstantiated and with no follow-ups from the poster, indicates "thousands" which means more than two thousand victims now."

According to one poster, the population of these communities is more than 300,000. If "only" 1% died, that would be 3,000 deaths, not even counting New Orleans. Looking at the devastation, that does not seem unlikely.

It goes to the condescending, parental attitude. They don't want to panic the peasantry.

Somehow I managed to understand what you meant. ;-)

I make all kinds of grammatical and spelling errors. If I start throwing stones I'll just hit myself...

FLOOD AID UPDATE: Here are some places you can donate to hurricane Katrina relief: (Bumped to top -- scroll down for current posts.)

Catholic Charities: http://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/news/katrina.cfm
is involved, and probably has lots of resources to draw on in the heavily Catholic New Orleans area.

Austin Bay is recommending Episcopal Relief and Development.http://www.er-d.org/

Liz at Rightalk suggests that animal lovers donate to the

Here's a link to Mennonite Disaster Services http://www.mds.mennonite.net/. The Sanity Inspector says they're highly efficient.

Reader Peter Viditto recommends The Mercy Corps

Here's the link for Methodist Relief http://www.methodistrelief.org/site/pp.asp?c=bhKNI4PHIpE&b=876335.

The Salvation Army http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/ does good work. (WalMart just gave them a million dollars, but that's just the barest beginning of what's needed.)

Hugh Hewitt recommends Samaritan's Purse http://www.samaritanspurse.com/

Scott Ott recommends Southern Baptist Disaster Relief http://www.namb.net/site/c.9qKILUOzEpH/b.224451/k.7BDB/Disaster_Relief_Homepage.htm

Jay Allen has a further suggestion:

I would suggest people donate through their companies whenever possible. Most major corporations offer matching funds to the dollar for charitable donations. Find who's collecting money for relief efforts, then file for a match through your employer instead of sending to the agency directly.

Not bad -- if your employer is supporting this.

Chuck Simmins is tracking corporate donations http://blog.simmins.org/2005/08/katrina-donations-begin.html

UPDATE: The plan for tomorrow's flood-aid blogburst: I'd like each blogger participating to put up a post recommending a charity, or other action to help, and linking back to this post where I'll keep a comprehensive list of both bloggers and charities. Basically, a Carnival of Hurricane Relief. That way readers of any blog will have ready access to recommendations on all the blogs. If anyone has a better idea, let me know.

You have pointed me to a post which reads: "French built houses using stone to last for long time. I guess French quarter will survive the exposure to water." I'm guessing that's not the one you wanted.

You are guessing correctly. I expected you to read the article which percipitated the thread not just an isolated post. Maybe this direct link will help.

A culture which chooses death persistently--infanticide as well as in a host of other rebellion-against-a-perfect-Loving-Almighty God

shall eventually have it.

Otherwise, evil consumes good.

Elementary, Watson.

It's not rocket science to realize that

WHEN AN ALMIGHTY BOSS SAYS

DO ABC AND LIVE ETERNALLY; DO ABC AND HAVE MY BLESSINGS IN ABUNDANCE.

DO ZYX AND SUFFER ETERNAL DEATH AND GREAT SUFFERING IN THIS LIFE.

And a culture increasingly chooses ZYX . . . at some point a just God MUST let judgment fly.

Nevertheless, I believe that Almighty All Loving God is mercifully with the suffering in ways we can't quite discern from this limited side of the whole picture.

There are many stories of angelic visitations and comforting ushering into heaven's gates at moments of horrid disasterous deaths.

I trust God. HE DOES ALL THINGS WELL AND RIGHT.

However, He HAS given you the ability and right to shake your fist at Him and rant at Him about how you are smarter than He is and more correct than He is.

I wouldn't recommend such a habit as a survival skill.
