Hardly ancient! but LOL, I imagine it could have turned out differently if the real "peace officers" hadn't come.
This is a good chance to remind all readers that the DC Chapter has for 7 years made the effort to cooperate with local law enforcement. LEO's have a job that is among the most difficult in our nation and especially our cities. We are grateful for their experience with protesters in Washington, which probably has more protests than any other city on earth. (Except Havana - not!)
A quick review of DC Chapter rules: no cursing, bird-flipping, or provocations to violence, respect other groups' permit spaces, avoid personal attacks such as racism or gay-baiting, and always cooperate with local enforcement officers.
All chapters also have a rule that all trash must be removed from the site before leaving. We make sure that the area is just a good or better than we found it when we're done.
Abusing Wounded Heroes [WashTimes on Pinkos at Walter Reed - Join us Sept 2]

The leftist protesters who gather every Friday night outside Walter Reed Medical Center are inspired by a radical agenda that few if any soldiers share. The protesters -- organized by the radical antiwar group CodePink and others -- have been photographed with signs bearing insults like "Maimed for a Lie" and "Died for Halliburton." They have lined mock flag-draped coffins outside the hospital. These cannot be meant to heal the wounds of those whom the nation has sent to battle.
The protesters insist they have the soldiers' best interests at heart, and that they don't intend to demean anyone. This is nonsense and the protesters know it. They seek to use wounded soldiers to make a political statement. They are callous to the wounded and their families with their lectures to the injured about the circumstances of their injuries. They affect righteous indignation that anyone thinks their tactics repellant.

Excellent point, thanks for the addition! It's one that we have been upholding, pizza boxes and all!
Today's lead article is about Code Pink's obfuscatons; scroll down to Andi's Aug 29 profusely illustrated story of the FReep.
YES! we do ... woohoo!!!
This thread brought tears to my eyes. Don't know why this particular one. Maybe just the fact that you guys are always there, making sure we are not still in the sixties, making sure things have changed. Maybe it was the guys coming back from the steak dinner seeing that little flag being waved. God bless you all.
Forgot to ping you two. Thank you. And anyone else I missed.
Palio-Crawford Man just discovered.
Oh this is not a Libertarian thread..
YAY YIPPEE YAHOO!
Thank you Bill F and Albion Wilde for the great report...
and to all the DC Chapter and friends for this new tradition. No longer is the Left the only voice in town!
Thank you for supporting our troops in this valuable and visible way.
BTTT
From CamEdwards.com blog just after the FReep:
"...all evening long I was shocked by how many people were honking and giving a thumbs up to us, and another finger to the Code Pink people. This is Washington, D.C... hardly a hotbed of the conservative movement."
Read it all and see his pix here.
And then there are CamEdward's three WONDERFUL video interviews of both Code Pink regulars and FReepers at the event. They are little QuickTime vids; after giving them time to load, you have to click the "forward" arrow to view them. Click here.
From the baldilocks blog:
"...Code Pink has...believed--without thinking of human nature and without having even the barest understanding of the mindset of those who implement the military objectives of this nation--that their actions would hurt the war effort. This is what passes for planning at Code Pink. They have, however, only served to hinder their own agenda by making themselves look like ghouls and like the types who would only be brave enough to take on soldiers when the latter are injured."
Here's what RedState has to say:
"Code Pink's assertion that this 'vigil' is meant to honor the troops is nauseating.... the organization's argument, and the argument of the radical left in general, that pictures of the wounded and dead are being 'hidden' by the Bush Administration for malicious purposes is weak at best. Although the American people deserve an accurate assessment of casualties, the radical left would prefer to use the carnage of war as political fodder....that it is the right of the American people to see the picture of the every person who has been wounded, and every casket of those that have died borders on necrophilia. Public access to these pictures is a decision more appropriately made by the soldiers themselves or, sadly too often, their families. The radical left will only be content when the Bush Administration allows these pictures to be published alongside photos of Brad and Angelina in US Weekly."
Here's wizbang's opinion of Code Pink's Laura Costas, who tried to rationalize their "vigil" when she was interviewed on Hannity & Colmes:
"All in all, Costas' defense of Code Pink was pretty lame....she started shouting, "My brother served in Iraq!" over everything every body else was saying. As though that were an excuse for her behavior and the behavior of her cohorts. In fact, it should almost the 'Cindy Sheehan Defense.' Don't hold me accountable for the deplorable things I say and do, I had family in Iraq!"
One of Code Pink's most frequent whines is that the Bush Administration is trying to hide the wounded by bringing them in at night, and that's why they are holding their 'vigil'. To this, The Qand0 Blog opines:
"Of course it couldn't be that the movement of these troops, all originating in Germany where they're stabalized before being sent to the US, has everything to do with regularly scheduled weekly flights (most likely on a Nightengale aircraft), could it? And it couldn't be that they're purposely scheduled to arrive late in the day in the DC area, where movement at a later hour would mean less of a necessity to battle DC's infamous traffic and be more comfortable for the wounded, could it? ...No, of course not, it has to be for some sinister purpose.
...In reality Code Pink's 'vigil' isn't aimed at monitoring anything like this at all. It is a transparent ploy to stage a poorly disguised anti-war political protest. And while they have every right to protest the war and the politics involved the place they've chosen is, in my opinion, entirely inappropriate."
Great news! Wasn't she also in the "statue of liberty" position in the bus pic? Great to see you last week, and hope to see you this week!
