If you can, go into patent law, it is the only "growth" area in the legal profession. The world will be at your feet.

LOC1 - do they have a day and a half? I'm not trying to be flippant - I don't know how many of these people can survive a day and a half. The temp is going to be 93-95 degrees over the next few days and many of these people are stranded outdoors without water or food.

Never, ever, underestimate Cajuns, Creoles, and Rednecks. The French, however, might be a problem.

Good points, well taken. Thanks.

How do people without vehicles leave a city on one day's notice? The fact is many poor and elderly had NO WAY of leaving the city. None. Nada. IF FEMA only exists to clean up the mess afterwards, and not to help people BEFORE a known tragedy is about to help, our tax dollars are being wasted. Personally, I'm much more interested in FEMA saving lives, than helping to rebuild homes in areas where those people should be paying their own way through insurance. You are right. I posted in haste.
They were given plenty of warning but the Mayor and Gov waited too long to get the ball rolling.
I should have qualified my remarks as being toward the ones in charge, not toward the individuals who are victims here.

Perhaps they'll have to spring Edwin Edwards from jail...

What about levee control? What's the plan? Was the plan always to wait days?

I hope the Old River Control Structure survived intact. If it were to fail we would have a compound disaster.
The Mississippi would divert down the Atchafalaya basin leaving New Orleans low and dry. It would also destroy the Port of New Orleans and probably end most of the trade traffic on the Mississippi.
It's a LONG detour to take the Ten-Tom canal to Mobile.

What is so important about a leader getting in the way of things just for a photo opportunity?
He can stand anywhere he wants to; but, since the cameras are all pointed at New Orlean and adjacent areas, he will be invisible unless he goes there. This is not a photo opt, it is an opportunity to demonstrate responsible leadership.

The plan was clearly inadequate.

NOLA will be redesigned, perhaps along the lines of Venice...

It was a disaster. Man still does not control Mother Nature. Get over it.

My daughter called me from Eunice Sunday. They were ok. She told me it wouldn't do them any good to want to evacuate...the town was sold out of gas.
