"Genius? This ain't rocket science. Its called filling up a hole with stuff . Its called a stitch in time saves $20 billion in tax and insurance premiums."
Looks like the helicopters were "diverted", rather apportioned, to rescue. They're bragging how many people they saved.
CYA already beginning...saying the breaches were too big...ok, but how about earlier in the day?
Exactly - and why can't there have been more of a Plan B for levee breaks? I saw one report that the hlos were diverted from plugging the hole because the snadbags were not there.
The 3000 pound sand bags would have done nothing except add more silt to the flooded areas. I was working on a very small dam once (less than a couple of acres) I was in a hundred thousand pound excavator. It rained real hard while I was working and I got stuck in the mud and the water was rising all around me. All I could do was throw water at the dam with the bucket to breach the dam before the engine went under water. I got a small trickle started over the top and within 5 minutes, the force of the water carried me through the dam to the other side like I was in a tonka toy. I really lucked out as the water never made it to the turbo inlet. If a tiny little pond can do that with a hundred thousand pounds, the Pontchartrain would roll big bags of sand like grains of sand.
