Lord knows I've had my disagreements with Bush. But he was THE ONLY person, apparently, in government who recognized the potential of the disaster. He acted BEFORE the storm hit when the locals would not or could not.
Also serves no purpose for him to be down there right now. He and his entourage and security would just destract from the rescue efforts.
I feel he would only be a distraction right now. He can lead the most effectively from Washington.
George Bush doesn't have to prove himself to me again.
I think National Hurricane Center director Max Mayfield called him with a dire warning. The difference is that, unlike the typical Democrat, Bush actually recognizes good advice from subordinates when he hears it...and then he acts on it.
