Looters filled industrial-sized garbage cans with clothing and jewelry and floated them down the street on bits of plywood and insulation as National Guard lumbered by
Aren't looters supposed to be shot?

Unfortunately, it seems that every single city in this country would have looters who take advantage of a massive tragedy. This Denise Bollinger shouldn't be looking at it so naively.

Earlier it was being reported that Marshall Law was enacted in NO, but I haven't seen anything lately. Has it? And if not, why not??

Where are those heavily-armed Korean shopkeepers when you need them??

Where are they going to take it?
I just hope the official emphasis remains on search, rescue, and evacuation, rather then property. Much of this junk will have to be written off anyway. The city looks like a total loss.

negatively depicting our noble African-American citizens and the news of looting will suddenly disappear."

Diamond rings and 32 inch televisions aren't going to feed anybody... Stupid is, as stupid does.
A looter with a brain would be snatching up bottled water and canned foods.

Our society teaches that the 'have-nots' are entitled to the property of the 'haves'. It all started with Robin Hood.

This is why I decided some time ago that I never wanted to go back to New Orleans. It's a dirty city full of vice and panhandlers. Last time we were there, it was about three months after Mardis Gras and they still hadn't taken down the bleachers or cleaned up the streets. filthy place. I'm glad the damage wasn't any worse but it's an armpit.
