A federal magistrate judge Monday released Robert Royko to a drug treatment center, saying she viewed his struggles with addiction as an illness.
Royko, 49, the son of Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Mike Royko, has been held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center since his arrest in April for allegedly attempting to hold up an Associated Bank branch at 6355 N. Central Ave.
Magistrate Judge Nan Nolan denied a prosecutor's request to keep Royko behind bars until trial and released him on his own recognizance to the custody of the drug treatment center.

This would have gone very differently had Mr. Royko been a conservative talk radio host, I'm sure. (See Rule #1 for being a Democrat)
Total hypocrisy, huh? I didn't even know that Royko had a son.
Similiar to Liberal columnist Carl Rowan shooting a man in his swimming pool.
(How he got in his swimming pool, he'll never know! [It was hanging too juicy to ignore!])
Too bad the kid didn't have his dad's brains and wit. Or maybe he did, but chose to waste them.
Royko was an honest journalist. He spent most of his career exposing the activities of the Daley machine.
