Thanks. Red Cross would not give anyone on my husband's medivac flight coffee, donuts or cigarettes unless they paid. All were donated items. Just one thing that made me mad.

Interesting. My Mom was an RN at Mass General in Boston for over 20 years. She always said she would never donate to the Red Cross after having to deal with them on a professional level. She always gave to The Salvation Army.

My ex-roommate had family in Alabama who swear they would never give to the Red Cross. After going through a hurricane like this one, the Red Cross told them they were only there to help the poor neighborhoods. I'm not sure I believe it, but the story was relayed more than once.

Same with my Dad (WWII, career Navy)- he was angry that the RC charged servicemen for coffee.

I've despised the red cross since I was a G.I. in Viet Nam. A friend had to go home on emergency leave, red cross "loaned" him the cost of his plane ticket and charged him interest on the "loan".

Red cross representatives on every base I served were treated like officers (membership in the "O" club etc.) and treated the enlisted like we were scum.
