Star, I am almost sure that is where she was. ;-(
But.......she had been driving around a little, so I'm not sure where she was talking about.
It's media hype or someone getting the name of the Louisiana locality wrong.
Houma seems to have missed the brunt of the storm. People were allowed back in at 4:00PM CDT.
From Houmatoday.com, the website of Houma's paper, The Courier:
3:40 Update -- So what's it like?
SETH FOX
It's something I'll probably keep saying until people are ready to slap me -- if what i saw on my two-hour tour down the bayou today is "moderate" damage, i hope i never see major damage.
Trees and powerlines line the highways and sideroads from Houma to the Gulf, and it isn't uncommon to see a home gutted or basically torn in half.
A fcouple of other things while I'm thinking about it:
*The major roads should be about cleared in the parish as authorities are getting ready to lift curfew.
A large part of the physical labor was done with the help of firefighters, both with Houma and volunteer departments down the bayou. Sheriff Larpenter gave them credit for their work and I completely forgot to include it in my breaking news piece about the damage survey. So blame me and sleep deprivation for that one.
*Even after conditions were deemed safe for travel by deputies, the weather still got nasty. At one point i tried to get out of a truck to take a picture and it was all i could do to get the door open. The wind darned near knocked me over and then tried to close the door on my leg as I fought to get back in the truck.
