I am not sure it makes a whole lot of sense to have a big city where New Orleans is. It certainly makes no sense for the government to spend a lot of money encouraging the growth of a city where New Orleans is.

I was thinking the same thing - why encourage growth where is can easily be devasted? NO is a wondeful city - but to keep federal $$'s pouring in is just a money pit.

You are absolutely right. New Orleans is situated in just about the worst possible location.

Does Landrieu have any idea how levees are actually made--the science behind them? Does she really believe that building 100+ miles of levee, 30-40 feet high, is feasable? Does she have any idea how wide the levee would have to be in order to be safe at that height?

If you build a city on a delta BELOW SEA LEVEL, you deserve what you get.

That said, however, I will support a huge, Federally funded effort to save Mother's and its staff...
