Whenever a hurricane goes by, affected families are entitled to ask FEMA for relief. If your kitchen is damaged by a hurricane, FEMA will pay for your new kitchen, etc. FEMA, of course, is an arm of the federal government and is financed at least partly by state (not federal)property taxes, so people without insurance can rightfully claim to have helped pay for FEMA's relief.

I thought that was only emergency aid, not the kind of payouts associated with rebuilding.

why am I paying for federal flood insurance then, if they would pay for my losses without it anyway?
