Compared to some of the speculation last night, they WERE lucky.

Considering what could have happened it's beginning to sound like they did get lucky. Still a lot we don't know -- and not all danger has passed. If the worst had happened we wouldn't be hearing any live reports out of New Orleans.

There's probably flooding building in the lowest-lying areas as the rainfall from the entire bowl of the city drains down to those points. And it will probably keep rising, although nowhere near as bad if the surge had topped the levees.

And hopefully they hold and don't get a significant breach.
