Interesting. Something heavy slam the roof on the exterior? Or just wind damage? I guess we'll know in a few weeks but hopefully in the meantime this is as far as it spreads.

What happened to the talk about dodging the bullet? looks like they dodged the MOAB, and are about to be hit instead by something less. it's only good news in relative terms-- still there is hope that the Lake P levees will not be breached and that is where the most death, destruction and illness would come from.

It's because the field is below sea level, and might end up 20 feet under water.Wow. Thanks. I'd thought the entire facility was above sea level. Jeepers. Another reason why it's a last resort, I guess.

It looks like Katrina's trying to go through the eyewall replacement cycle now, at least on the radar shots.
Harrigan, you twit. You should've gotten back inside when you had the chance.

Apparently something has happened to a portion of the Dome's roof; people are moving to the "undercover" portions of the dome. That is ominous. At least part of the strength of the structure is going to depend on the skin of the structure.

The superdome has plenty of places for the nine thousand inside to stand beside the center of the superdome...
To: Hatteras
We are now being told that they were careful not to call the SuperDome a "shelter". The owners of the super dome said that last year. There was a post showing the article last night. Said past 130 mph there is no guarantees.

I'd heard that if the Red Cross couldn't guarantee the structural integrity during a storm, it couldn't be called a shelter. Well, better something than nothing. Beats being in a wooden structure at or below sea level. Sounds as though the NG is doing a great job for these folks, too.

I know, LA is so rich in history, culture and beautiful architecture I try to pray focused on the people, but the mind plays tricks and sees the Cathedral, the Garden District, the beautiful parks....then back to the important thing, the safety of the people.
