As reported by Fox News about 11:15CST, Major levee breach on east bank of the Industrial Canal has flooded eastern New Orleans and the New Orleans lower 9th ward above many first floor windows, and up to ceilings in most houses. Reporter is stuck on an overpass and reports water topping U-Haul delivery trucks on the roadways. Also reports whitecaps in the streets and lapping onto houses. Let's hope the Lake Ponchartrain levees hold, as we are reaching a critical point with water being forced south by severe north winds at this point.

You're probably right. I'm getting my news all over online, so haven't caught any pump/levee updates.

And it's still pouring rain - I hope those people trapped in attics can get out!

" I heard somewhere that the levee behind East Jefferson hospital has broken and that the hospital itself is flooding."

I heard/saw that report upthread somewhere. The windows began seeping then water started coming in. It was unknown if it was from rain or flooding.

The USS Drum has been moved to an area on land on the port side aft of the USS Alabama. Saw it on Google Earth. I heard someone on the radio ask about the 'Bama and how it would fare. They stated it was sitting on/in a mud deck and it would take something a lot bigger than Katrina to refloat it. I'm wondering about the aircraft on static display near the 'Bama. There is a B-52 that looks like it could have taken wing with the winds that were available. Hope everything's safe there and the other affected areas.

Godspeed to those in harms way.

No Howlin, relax, you are not being stalked, just pointing out some inconsistencies that I have noticed from you.

"What's with the sniping, whining, and recriminations?"

You talk as if that's unusual. I've been on countless threads where multiple personal brawls on side issues drowned out the main topic of the thread.

"uh, the City is flooding...."

I'm afraid the whole concept of building a major city below sea level is tragically flawed."

It's too soon to say "the city is flooding". No wall of water has engulfed New Orleans, not yet. There is a fight going on right now, between the water and the people who built the city, and while some parts of the city are getting wet, that fight is by no means decided yet.

Here's your reply to the lefties regarding the SPR: the Federal government doesn't pay cash for the oil that goes into the SPR. The oil is delivered to the SPR by Chevron Corp. as payment for some large oil leases. So when oil prices go up, there is no budgetary impact on the Feds because no cash is paid for the oil. This is one case where the Feds actually made a smart move that saves the taxpayers money.
