They talked to the management company of the superdome. The roofing was replaced recently. They are confident it will survive Katrina intact. The reporter seemed skeptical at their boasting.
I wonder if they mean the one-inch thick polyurethane elastomer coating was replaced. My house roof has the exact same coating. It is plenty strong in normal circumstances, but you can pick it apart with a screwdriver with no effort at all. At any rate, is is really not a structural element in a design like the Superdome.
