35,000 seeking shelter in the Superdome, I hope it proves worthy.
I hope the lose of life is minimal.

Nothing from Shep for quite some time. Was he on during Geraldo's two hours?

As tropical cyclones reach this threshold of intensity, they usually - but not always - have an eyewall and radius of maximum winds that contract to a very small size, around 10 to 25 km [5 to 15 mi]. At this point, some of the outer rainbands may organize into an outer ring of thunderstorms that slowly moves inward and robs the inner eyewall of its needed moisture and momentum. During this phase, the tropical cyclone is weakening (i.e. the maximum winds die off a bit and the central pressure goes up). Eventually the outer eyewall replaces the inner one completely and the storm can be the same intensity as it was previously or, in some cases, even stronger.

There is the potential of a tidal wave from that volcano in the Canary Islands that would devastate the entire east coast sometime in the next x number of centuries. There wouldn't be much warning, a lot like this hurricane. Everybody should take a look at their local situation just on the off chance something ever happens. Natural disaster of some kind is always with us.

I'm really going to be honked off when the libs blame the president and the war for this hurricane.I was over there this afternoon just slumming (yeah I know, shower time) and found a thread where the DUmmies were blaming the Louisiana National Guard for taking "all of the equipment" to Iraq.
I have no earthly idea what the dummies meant by "all the equipment. I just assumed the NG may need it to fight a WAR.
Jeez!

It's a sarcastic attack on the idea that it's Bush's fault.....
To: NautiNurse
National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome. I just got back from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area with a group of Scouts. We had to carry in five days worth of food. Let me tell you, you don't readily realize how much food that is until you have to carry it over a portage.

"Why is it Bush's fault?"
