Won't the drop in pressure do that- I have seen warnings to open windows in approaching tornedoes

Actually, an approaching low pressure area will, to a degree, suck atmospheric gases (your air) from your shelter into itself. But before you suffocate from lack or air, the force and turbulence of the winds striking your shelter will likely rip it apart. Thus, you stand a far greater chance of being killed by flying debris.
