To: proud American in Canada
LOL! I don't know if anyone actually knows the true origin of The Green Bean Casserole. I choose to believe that somewhere around mid-USA, one neighbor had a can of green beans. Another a can of soup, yet another those canned onion rings. They were all on the brink of starvation, and decided to pool their food. I guess we can all take comfort that it was green beans and not creamed corn. One of those could be worse.. recipes.

OR canned peas...

DH thinks that Durkee came up with the recipe to sell canned fried onions. Did you know that it is the state casserole of Indiana? Anyone can bring one to a church dinner and consider their offering acceptable. (shudder)

Creamed corn is so ick! However, I do have a really great recipe for a corn casserole that tastes like dessert. It's the only time I buy creamed corn!
