WWL is reporting "wind shears" which may be tornadic, or at least extra damaging happening around Venice and other places in Plaquemines Parish...
Would be better for New Orleans and worse for Biloxy, etc.
I have been listening to WWL as I have the streaming video minimized. Last night one of the anchors had a call his wife was in labor and he headed for the hospital so they were giving an update and saying that patients in that hospital were also being evacuated.
Cannot fathom the terror of a new mother with her baby if she had been kept in the hospital.

Unfortunately landfalling in the middle of an ERC basically means converting a Cat 5 into a Cat 4 with a much wider radius of Cat 4 winds than you did when it was a Cat 5.
And it won't reduce the surge at all. A much wider area will suffer severe wind damage, but the amount of Biblically ridicously bad wind damage will be marginally reduced .
And remember that they retroactively ruled Andrew as a Cat 5, even though at the time they said it was a Cat 4.
Such a position is a noble attempt at a theodicy but doesn't do much good to the six year old dying of leukemia or the wife beaten daily by her husband, et. al.
Why God Godself, if you take the Hebrew Scriptures as revelation, asks me to sit in judgment on God's actions -
"O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, between me and my vineyard. What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it."
To praise God is to assume that we are competent to appraise the good that happens in our lives. To deny that God is a twisted sadist is just the flip side of that.
