Actually, I know a number of engineers that are Creationists. Since engineers are not trained in science, it is easy for them to get "sucked in" to something that they really want to believe.

hrmmph! signed, an engineer.

Engineering is like Math. A great tool for the application and study of things Science. But engineers are trained to design, build and operate things. They usually do not get rigorous training in science. Do you agree? No denigration intended, but engineering is supposed to be applied, and not so much theoretical.

I have known many engineers that operate by saying "I know it is this way. I want it to be this way. And I will keep doing it until it is this way" - ignoring the theoretical underpinnings of the subject.

I even know one who was convicted of fraud against Uncle Sam because of this attitude. He ruined the careers of himself and a number of tother engineers as well. And I don't think it was a coincidence that he was a Creationist.
