I feel like I'm living in a dream; we have been discussing these very same "facts" since early Friday.

It's just unbelievable. We have been talking precisely about this for several days and the only unresolved issue was whether or not Katrina might make Cat 5 status before landfall. There was every indication that she'd at least reach Cat 4 status.

That New Orleans was ground zero wasn't in dispute to those of us who were watching all the models reach unusual agreement.

New Orleans cannot survive a Cat 4 hurricane. That is not an opinion, that is a fact. There's no point in even modeling what a Cat 5 storm will do.

I hope the New Orleans politicians responsible for this ride the storm out downtown. I really do.

Listening to the WWL infobabe that's doing the traffic reports, it seems the urgency level is quite a bit higher.

I know.

These people have made some terrible decisions.

I'm sickened by the situation they've created.

Today after lunch, I felt like the MSM was finally "getting it," but I'm scared it might be too late.

It's like watching a slow-motion accident happening.

Actually the NOLA politicians said they were going to ride the storm out downtown, at the Superdome. That's where their Emergency services HQ is. Likely if you are in buildings of more than three stories that are strong enough, you will survive. The real problem comes if the Lake Pontchartrain dikes get breached. Then you run the real risk of drowning like what happened in the tsunami.

Areas around NOLA are mostly 3-6 feet above sea level, so they are at great risk to surge, if the survive the winds.

Here are some after the fact pictures from Camille ... Camille

Sorry, came in a bit late in your discussion. Are you talking about how long it took for the Mayor to issue the evacuation order for New Orleans?

I understand 480,000 people are trying to get out of there right now. They better have both sides of the free open in the "get out of there" direction.

I heard them talking about emergency generators. I wanted to ask them where those generators are located.

Anywhere in the bowl...unless they are twenty or more feet above ground level...they are going to be down once the levees top or are breached.

Have they opened up the counter lanes for outbound traffic yet?

Best thing is if the storm varies enough to veer off to the west or east and avoid a direct impact with the worst of the surge. That is what we are praying for now.

That news conference earlier was terrible. A lot of talk and mush IMHO...very little substance and it should have been filled with substance at that point.

Just my opinion.
