All doctors, fire and police were asked to stay.

What good can they do if they're flooded???? WHY would they leave hospital patients if flooding is immanent?

I was wondering the same thing. If I had a relative in a hospital, I would get them out. What good is it going to do them if they have no power? I know most have back up generators but if they can not be used, what a disaster in the making. If I had someone in a nursing home, they would have been outta there yesterday. Better safe than sorry.

The mayor said they were moving hospital patients to the third floor or above. The doctors, fire, police for after the storm. They said they were marshaling boats to rescue stranded people. The tall buildings should survive, the roads will need boats to travel, but should be doable. I think NOLA city has some 30 odd 30 foot boats staged for just this eventuality. Recalling from memory what the Mayor of NO said earlier.
