Valid point.

In Cayman, when a hurricane approaches, Cayman Airways adds flights to help evacuate tourists.

Your two hit posts here are leaving several of us incredulous. Do you have facts to back up your assertions? Likewise, I asked you where you are located.

Karl Rove was seen Saturday, boarding a helicopter bound for NO, with a packet of ACME Instant Hurricane seeds in his pocket.

I knew it! ;-)

Our priest made a point at Mass today to offer up special prayers for the people of New Orleans, and asked especially for Our Lady of Prompt Succor (whose historic statue is in the Ursuline Convent in NO) to save the city as she did at the time of the great fire in 1812 and the Battle of New Orleans in 1815.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Virgin most powerful and Mirror of Justice, who offered yourself totally to God for the perfect accomplishment of His Holy Will, make us generous in sacrifice. We have recourse to you to obtain the graces we need, especially your intercession before the Throne of God for the safety of the City of New Orleans -- as you did once save your beloved City from ravaging flames and our Country from an alien foe. O Mary, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, heavenly protectress of souls devoted to your Divine Son, deign to bless us each day of our mortal pilgrimage, cast upon us your eyes of mercy, and after our exile, show unto us Jesus, your Son and our Brother. Amen.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. (Three times.)

Airplanes don't fuels and service themselves. The men and women who do this have left with their families and what they can save from their homes. Airlines are not acting out of fear or selfish motives, they simpley cannot opperate without the ground crews and airport staff.

Again, it's a measureable proven fact that hurricanes cause the earth to shake.

As do sonic booms and other external forces. Look, If you feel earthquakes can be triggered by hurricanes, fine. I am not going to argue about it.

Contraflow on I12, I10 and I55 to end at 4pm today. Why?

Based on what has happened here in Georgia (I-16 out of Savannah and I-75 north out of Florida), they end the "contraflow" before the storm hits, figuring that all the locals are done, and it gives the police and other maintenance folks to get to safety before things deteriorate too dramatically.

In fact, I'd argue that it's hitting the offshore oil and gas industry in the worst possible spot.

The little heard of town of Port Fourchon has the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port.

It only handles a million barrels of oil a day.

Scratch Port Fourchon and the the La. Offshore Oil Port, and you have a tough time replacing the capacity to unload a million barrels of oil -- a day.

Admittedly, this place is West of the Mouth of the Mississippi, but a Cat 3 storm will probably knock it out.

So, in this case, Katrina coming close to this town will be enough to destroy enough capability as to hurt folks at the pump...
