It's all ambition. While there is no question that Herself is in the 2008 race, and clearly leads among Dem'crats, how far John McCain will get is another matter altogether. At this point he is about even with Bill Frist.
Look for Newt Gingrich (tanned, rested, and ready) to pull a Nixonian move, and present himself almost full-blown at the first primary in 2008. Newt has been quietly visiting county chairmen and state Republican offices, doing all the hand-shaking and stroking that is the real basis of party unity when the conventions come around.

I hate when people say this. It is so untrue. In 2004, George W. Bush ran as a conservative, and John Kerry tried to pass himself off as a moderate. Who won? President Bush. The key for Republicans is to nominate a strong conservative. John McCain is not that.

the MSM continues to ignore the results of the 2002 and 2004 election where it wasnt moderates that determined the outcome but the ability to turn out the base.

Early in the 2000 Pres. Primary, I was not sure who to support. The press whined and moaned endlessly about then Gov. Bush. The same press gushed over Sen. McCain. My choice was made easy with the help of the press. I voted for Gov. Bush.

Please...more likely what Hillary is doing is softening up McCain as a candidate...In a race with Hillary, McCain will propose spending limits and no negative ads...Hillary will comply and then unlease 527s to destroy MCCain. McCain as a man of principal will reject and denounce any 527s that come to his defense or attack Hillary. Hillary will win walking away
I stand by my vote. If it is a choice between Hillary! and McCain, I'm going with The Beast.

so much is wrong here:
1. the dems might win both houses in 2006 ( i think it is an increasing liklihood)
2. dont count on a GOP majority to stand up to hillary the way they stood up to Bill
3. McCain would take national security more seriously than would Hillary and her leftist Sec of Def and State
I reject those on the right who think the country has to get really really bad before it can get better. It is very telling that you didnt even mention national security.
(seeems the left is the only group that wants to forget how we got to 9-11).
McCain will never, ever win the Republican nomination. A moderate Republican has no more chance of being nominated than a moderate Democrat has.
