QUOTE "The Red Cross lost a great deal of support and confidence when they charged the soldiers of WWII for coffee and donuts--while eliciting donations from the soldiers' families back home.

You don't have all the facts. The American Red Cross was basically FORCED to charge that by the Red Cross overseas. They were charging and when we arrived they made us do the same. Would you like your freaking nickel back?
Something happened how many years ago...and it still causes you to hate the Red Cross? What a joke. The American Red Cross never wanted to charge that nickel in the first place.
If that is the main reason you don't like the Red Cross then you truly are misinformed on what they do these days. They do a SUPER job. GET OVER IT ALREADY. Would you like your nickel back? If so I will GLADLY mail it to you.
Agencies make MISTAKES you know. They learn from them and change the way things are done.
You can rant all over me if it makes you feel better. I simply told you why the Red Cross had lost a great deal of its support.
Further, in regards to your debate: First, you said it wasn't the fault of the Red Cross. Then, you said that organizations can learn from their mistakes.
"The American Red Cross was basically FORCED to charge that by the Red Cross overseas"
No one forced them to charge the chopper pilots $1.50 for a cup of coffee and stale donut in a California forest fire in the 70s!
the Red Cross is a money grabbing POS!
Oh, you're saying that since WWII is too old to use as an example then how about something more recent:
In the early 60s Charleston, S.C. was hit by a hurricane. I was stationed there and the Navy volunteered its services for the clean-up effort.
While the cameras were on, the Red Cross was "giving" coffee to everyone. As soon as the press left they started charging $1.00 per cup. This was early 60s $s.
Way to go "Red Cross!"
( I won't even mention the recent corruption and fraud charges against the exaulted "Red Cross," OK? )
"Something happened how many years ago...and it still causes you to hate the Red Cross?"
There is plenty happening today that gives me reason to despise the red cross. Including there firing employees who don't want to participate in there gay pride events. And I know from experience that they like to hype up what they are doing to the media when in fact they are doing almost nothing in some cases.
