This freeper wishes all well in harms way of Katrina.I went through THREE hurricanes in Daytona Beach (living about 1000ft from the ocean) last year.Still don't have a roofing company to re-do my roof that I had to fix and patch three times myself after riding each one out in the house.
FR was my only connection to the outside world on my wife's battery powered laptop with her Sprint wireless PCMCIA card. Nauti Nurse and a few other freepers helped me get thru a couple of very difficult times by replying to my frantic posts as my house was literally BREATHING (Walls, windows, and ceiling were pulsing like when a person breathes in and out) as one of the storms approached, went over and passed.
Bannie's post reminded me of a reporter's comment on TV within the last 12 hours or so. Someone said that they HAVE to ride the storm out in NO, and that they would do it on the second level and attic(if needed because of flooding).
The reporter's comment was "Be sure and Take an AXE with you !! If you get stuck on a second level or attic and the water gets to a higher level than that, you can try to make an exit hole to get on the roof with the axe."
He then went on to say there have been deaths concerning people getting in a no-way-out situation like that !!
