For the life of me, I cannot understand what this "plan" we have always heard NO has to handle this is.
Is it prayer and hoping the POTUS calls and orders them to evacuate?
You would think POTUS declaring a federal state of emergency for LA YESTERDAY would have given them a bit of hint??????????
Bush called Blanco to ask her to order a manadatory evacuation, Blanco said. Whether she did order it I don't know. That radio news clip didn't bother to mention that. I just got up. I don't know why they don't have fleets of buses and send passenger and freight trains in to drive folks who don't have cars up to Alexandria. It seems rather obvious to me. NO may very well end up a death pit.
The "plan" was always to "get drunk and screw" (with all due repect to Mr Buffett). There are so many people in NO who don't even OWN cars. There's just no way to evacuate a city the size of New Orleans. Not to mention everthing else between Baton Rouge and the coast. The prevailing thought in New Orleans is that if it can't be done, why worry about it. Afterwards, people will say "it can't happen again, we're safe now."
I don't know how many thousands of residents and homeless will decide to "ride it out", but you can bank on it!
