...>> read the riot act to the mayor was Max Mayfield, of the National Weather Center. He made it clear that those that remain, are very likely to die, in his gentle drawl. He said that this the storm he had feared for 35 years, and now it has come. He said he laid it out to mayor so he could sleep at night for the rest of his sojourn on this mortal coil. This is veritable Shakespeare, with the mayor as Hamlet.<<
Did you hear him say that??? Oh Man I've got chills.
But this time, electing incompetents to the mayor's office and the governor's chair means that people are going to die.
It happens sooner or later. It happened in the city of Atlanta when the incompetence and venality of the sheriff's office resulted in four dead.
The butcher's bill for stupidity has just been presented to the people of New Orleans. And it's going to mean a lot more than just four dead. And that really, really bites.
Prayers for all involved.
I heard it all, each and every word. Well he didn't say "mortal coil" but he did say "large loss of life" and "candad and direct conversation" and "sleep at night." The guy was at once very calm and very agitated. The worry and pain in his voice was up close and personal. Science folks don't cotton to grandiloquence, but I understood his message, and put it into my own words. I think he went on TV because he felt he needed to put a bunson burner under the mayor, and everybody else who might be listening or told about it, including Bush. In fact, I hope he called Bush.
