I do not know much about hurricanes... but, I am praying that an eyewall replacement cycle might lessen the intensity of this masssive storm as hit makes landfall.
Can any of the weather experts tell me if this is a possibility? I have no idea of the timing of these cycles, but hope someone posting here knows if this would help out all in the path of this monster.
Unfortunately the storm exhibits the characteristics of an "annular" hurricane (also known as a "Dounut" or "Truck Tire"...large eye, featureless CDO without bands, etc.
Such storms maintain their intensity much longer; also, wider storms in general take longer to weaken.
