Before you returned from your nap, WWL's weather guy said he expects it will lose steam before it hits *but* worries it could have a last second revival just ahead of landfall. He's keeping watch on the eye. While it's pressure is lower than Camille, it's larger and the eye is not as narrow. He was still talking about 200 mph gusts all over the place. At that point he had not gotten the 908mb or wind speed update.

He's saying noon Monday for the worst of it.

Any idea on how often a Cat 5 "blows itself out"?

Most Cat 5 can't sustain that status for more than 24 hours. However--Isabel had some of these same characteristics as Katrina--particularly in size, and stuck with Cat 5 longer.
