At least he didn't wait any longer.........

New GFDL still slamming New Orleans:

we are planning to do that. Where we are is a ridge, 12 feet above sea level. We fear the winds more than the water.
does anyone have links to any web cams that are over the 2 main highways to get out of NO?
Lots of new images here

Wave forecast included.
I think Mayfeild's appeal worked.
Yeah just in time for the bars to close on Burbon St... A bunch of drunks trying to get out of dodge, a really smart move.
Should note, GFDL is almost worst case scenario... and has the storm strengthening at landfall.
gives 'em time to sober up....start pouring the coffee.....
I pray the police of someone gets on a bullhorn and warn them. Everyone I know here is taking it very seriously.
Did you see this from the Eastern US Weather forum?

That wind increase is a hell of a lot sooner than anticipated, even by the most aggressive of models out there. Looks like the suggestion of 170 mph (150 kts) could definitely still be in play during the next 24 to 36 hours.
There...:-)
Did I read that right? 50+ foot waves on top of a 20' storm surge?
FEMA is at the ready ... already staged and staging.
Well, it wasn't even a named storm till Wednesday. You could say that Katrina snuck up on all of us.
I'm just tired of watching everybody try to assess blame anytime something bad happens. Sure, sometimes there is true malfeasance. But this hurricane is not Bush's fault, or the news media's fault, or anybody else's fault. And anybody whose head isn't in a hole (or who isn't stoned/drunk in the French Quarter) should know that it's on the way.
I'm just big on personal responsibility, as in looking out for your own best interest by taking the time and effort to find out what's happening, both near and far. In this age of communication, there are so many outlets that none of us has any excuse for ignorance.
Free Republic is a news outlet, and we've been following the storm here for days.
So let's all just quit bitching and start praying.
Who's linking to FR? If so, it sort of proves my point earlier in the hurricane season that with all the hurricane "mavens" on here, this is one of the places to be!
True enough but they all knew ppl in NO were gonna do this & be plastered by this time. I agree with a post earlier that the mayor should have just bit the bullet and said get out!!!
