You're right.
Special-needs Shelter Contacts Provided
The state has opened two medical needs shelters in the state, one in Alexandria (800-841-5778) and one in Monroe (866-280-7287). Superdome will be opened as a refuge of last resort for special needs patients if it becomes necessary. New Orleans residents can call 504-658-2500 for shelter information.
People seeking access to a special needs shelter must call in advance to gain admission. The state may open additional shelters in other cities if necessary. The state provided a set of phone numbers for residents in the following regions:
Alexandria: 800-841-5778
Shreveport: 800-841-5776
Baton Rouge: 800-349-1372
Monroe: 866-280-7287
Houma/Thibodaux: 800-228-9409
Slidell/Hammond: 866-280-7724
Lafayette: 800-901-3210
Lake Charles: 866-280-2711
No problem here. Smartass comments are good at times like this. They tend to break the tension a bit. :o)
What are your storm plans?
Sadly, some people are that stupid and wait for authorities to tell them what to do.
In defense of some folks, like tourists from overseas, there was a reporter on television saying that some people hadn't even had the news on and didn't know there was a hurricane headed their way.
This is yet one more reason why it's critical that mayor step up to the plate and make a decision and dam*ed soon.
Next Mardi Gras may be held in Baton Rouge...or further North.
Problem has/had been that tourists, etc. have not been following the news while on holiday. Last night, there were many who simply were not aware of the storm, or the gravity of the situation.
One foreign tourist saw a news camera crew, and asked them if they were filming a movie.
Yup. Thanks. Good 'ol Zot threads
CNN (in spite of that idiot guy) has some interesting coverage this AM...showing what the storm surge can/will do..then they have local tv stations now and then. They've sent Jean Meserve down there- she said she talked to some people who said they're leaving..because they can't swim...others who said they've "been through this before and it never happens".
My God!
Last I looked at this thing, it was a Cat 2 or 3 meandering in the Gulf. Now it's a Cat 5 aimed pretty squarely at New Orleans? Good Lord.
Katrina is quite the nasty bitch, eh?
Churning up trolls even!
I'm stunned. I keep saying that, but between the strength of the storm and the criminal stupidity of the mayor, I almost (but not quite - LOL) have no words.
If things go bad, the Democrats will blame Bush because the La National Guard is in Iraq. Watch and see.
We are staying put for now (outside of Baton Rouge). I have family in Waco that we can go stay with if needed....
Senator Landrieu already said it.
Per MAX Mayfield..."Potential for large loss of life" just now released statement..
