What was really cool was that along the way cars would be trying to get on the freeway. This was their town and people needed to get where they were going so we let them in. Many were either with the caravan or decided to join because they stayed in line and turned their flashers and lights on too and joined us.
There was a problem though. My sister was in a car behind me but dropped way back. She told me later that a car with negative GB stuff on pulled in front of her and deliberately tried to separate them.
Our group did get separated from the main caravan .... we made a wrong turn and had to make a u-turn to go back to toward the highway. To do this we pulled thru a large parking lot and, to make it possible for all of us to turn around and head back the right way, a local stopped his pick-up in the road and held up all the traffic so we could all pull into the road again together!
It was so wonderful seeing all the folks we passed (both on the street and in other cars) giving us all THUMBS UP, shouting Semper Fi (hubby was flying a big Marine off the back of the truck) and waving to us as we passed all along the entire route to Crawford!
