Hi HushTx, after bvw posted his comment, many responded. This poster's concern was that some on the left have been using the yellow ribbons to say that they want to "cut and run" in Iraq. It has been pointed out that THAT is not the reason for the yellow ribbons. It was also pointed out that some people choose to burn the flag, but that doesn't stop us from waving it and honoring it.

The yellow ribbon is a symbol for those of us who support our troops and their mission, and that we will wait devotedly and pray for their safe return. I do not believe that bvw was in any way insulting those of us who choose the tradition of hanging yellow ribbons for our military men and women.

On this thread there were several posts dealing with the history and the most respected reasons for hanging yellow ribbons in support of our troops.

Most kind of you to reply so fast! I appreciate that. I have to admit that I'm probably one of the younger people on here (thank my brother, haha) but I like to think I know something once in a while. I was just a little confused.

And man, today was nuts!

Thanks for the explanation. I guess I've learned better today the love, support and caring with which yellow ribbons are placed by most Americans who use them.
