MILITARY 'SPIED' ON RICE (More Able Danger leaks from Specter staffers)
NY Post ^ | 8/27/05 | NILES LATHEM

Posted on 08/27/2005 6:13:35 AM PDT by jimbo123

Cyber-sleuths working for a Pentagon intelligence unit that reportedly identified some of the 9/11 hijackers before the attack were fired by military officials, after they mistakenly pinpointed Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other prominent Americans as potential security risks, The Post has learned.

The private contractors working for the counter-terrorism unit Able Danger lost their jobs in May 2000. The firings following a series of analyses that Pentagon lawyers feared were dangerously close to violating laws banning the military from spying on Americans, sources said.

The Pentagon canceled its contract with the private firm shortly after the analysts — who were working on identifying al Qaeda operatives — produced a particularly controversial chart on proliferation of sensitive technology to China, the sources said.

Sources said the private contractors, using sophisticated computer software that sifts through massive amounts of raw data to establish patterns, came up with a chart of Chinese strategic and business connections in the U.S.

-snip-

The China chart was put together by James Smith, who confirmed yesterday that his contract with the military was canceled and he was fired from his company because the military brass became concerned about the focus on U.S. citizens.

-snip-

"It was shut down in a matter of hours. The colonel said our service was no longer needed and told me: 'You just ended my career.' "

Who else was on the China chart?

Bill Perry, Clinton's second Secretary of Defense, would certainly rate a top spot on that chart when it comes to the transfer of sensitive technology to Red China.

Are they just setting it up to release the Clinton China technology transfers?

Naming Condie now gets them some credibility leading up to it?

Or do the Dems/Spector have access to the information now which means it will be distorted and misrepresented beyond all repair and lose all credibility in the coming weeks?

I don't know, mewzilla. Something about this story just doesn't sit right.

It may be, as you say, just an attempt to discredit AD. I will look forward to Weldon and Shaffer's comments about this next week.

Don't be so quick to smear the Able Danger crew.

From the article it's not clear that the accusations came from the A/D crew. I have no reason to smear them, it's my impression that someone else threw out the Rice bit.

Yes, I do want to know more about the China/Clinton story. After all, it may very well be my children or grandchildren who fight a war because of what happened there.

Exactly. They're trying to deflect attention from the other people who showed up on Able Danger's Chinagate chart.

They're using Condi's appearance on the chart as a red herring to attempt to discredit everything that Able Danger uncovered.

It's what is known as 'false positives'. Just because a US official may have contacts with some of the people on 'the list' and does business in the circles that are being observed does not a connection make.

For instance you would expect that Rice may have contacts with the bag men that were funneling money illegally into the Clinton campaign. Doesn't make her a conspirator, just one of many with contacts. Her post as Provost at Standford would have had her meeting with many on the AD list.

So what is this, just another attempt by liberals on Spector's staff to torpedo AD and protect Clinton.

We need to do our own open source AD, discard crap like this and stay on track. As Perot used to say, beware of the gorilla dust.

The point is that Clinton killed Able Danger because of the China Chart. And the reason WASN'T because of Condi's appearance on it. Who else was on the China chart?

Exactly! Rice's name is good for a few more sales of the Post, whereas yet another shovel of dirt about Clinton connections is just a yawner. But this thing got slammed down fast and made some poor slob fret out loud about his career, and that is the Clinton m.o., their signature hoofprint.

I'm waking up slowly here and starting to "get it".

And remember this article from FrontPage magazine, which imo does some of the best investigating around. It all about why the Wall was built to begin with and it has to do with Clinton's illegal transfer of technology to China and their subsequent illegal campaign contributions.

It's titled How Chinagate led to 9/11.

"Now 3,000 people are dead because of it".

Many more than that. What about over 1800 servicemen and women dead, many innocent Iraqi not to mention all the injured.

The klintoons are evil, evil to the core.

May 2004 and the period of time leading up to it would hardly produce any issues concerning Condi Rice ...

Correction ... make that May 2000.

I thought I heard Lt. Col. Shafer say yesterday on Hardball that Able Danger was closed down 4 months prior to 9/11. That does not jive with this story. I think everyone involved is in CYA mode. It will be interesting to see if any documents make it out alive.

This is some of what Rush said the other day about 'able danger':

"Somebody's on the hook here, or some organization is on the hook. Something is on the hook. This is where this is going to be. If it comes out that enough was known to stop this, I am telling you, heads will roll, and the whole purpose-if somebody already knows that there was information present to stop this, there's been, you know, circling of the wagons going on ever since. And they will continue to circle the wagons to prevent that bit of information from getting out. But even at that, even if it never gets to that, even if that's not the case, nobody's been fired and clearly, there was, if not incompetence, there was laxness. Somebody dropped the ball or a group of people dropped the ball somewhere. Somebody wasn't talking something seriously. In face some of the people that have been closer to this have been given medals."

Possibly, linking Rice this way is a "back off or else" signal across the bow of our current ship of state. They're saying, Leave this alone or we'll make it messy for your team too.
They must be nervous.

Remember folks, Rice was involved with the Xlintonistas (Sec of Defense Perry) while at Stanford.

Missile technology transfers through Chinese spies.

How gallant -- the Clinton administration rose to the defense of Condi Rice during the 2000 election. We are truly living in the Age of Wonders!

The Post no doubt got this from Hillary and Bill's circle of operatives and hangers-on. Leaked on a Friday afternoon, the item escaped close scrutiny but is now on the public record in a way that obscures the real story: the Clinton administration shut down Able Danger because it revealed too much about the depth of China's penetration of the US business and political elite.
