Well, everyone seems convinced it's drugs but just to put an alternative viewpoint out there, it could be schizophrenia. Schizophrenia usually strikes otherwise healthy people, usually relatively young people, without warning and it's very sad when it happens. I'd hate to be making fun of a man who's going through that.

I'd hate to be making fun of a man who's going through that. Oddly, it was my first thought. For some unfathomable reason I didn't even think of drugs until I started reading the thread.

It usually hits at a much earlier age--- 15-25 y/o. He should have shown episodes of schezophrenia by the age of 48, unless drug or trauma induced.
