CARACAS (AFP) - US civil rights activist Jesse Jackson will reportedly begin a three-day visit to Venezuela on Saturday, to meet President Hugo Chavez, politicians and community leaders.
Jackson and his delegation will meet Chavez, Venezuelan religious leaders and will attend a special session of Venezuela's National Assembly convened Sunday.
Jackson will also meet leaders of African-descended communities in Caracas, the ABN state news agency said.
On Monday, Jackson travels to Barlovento, 40 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Caracas, to meet with members of the African-Venezuelan community.
Jackson's visit comes just days after conservative US preacher Pat Robertson said on his television show, "The 700 Club," that Chavez should be killed.
"I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," he said on Monday.
Robertson apologized Wednesday for the comments.
Chavez, a twice-elected leftist and close ally of Cuban President Fidel Castro, has often said Washington would like to assassinate him, and accuses the Bush administration of involvement in a coup d'etat that toppled him for 47 hours in April 2002.
Jackson's visit coincides with the arrival of Organization of American States secretary general Jose Miguel Insulza, as well as representatives and ministers of the OAS, who will take part in negotiations August 28-29 to draft an OAS Social Charter.

In my best Church Lady voice, "Isn't that special."
Jackson has a delegation?
Did the UN create a Secretary of Grift and Poverty Pimping position recently?
Chavez is fast becoming the Cindy Sheehan of South America.
Fire mission!
LOL
They shouldn't let him back in.
Lookin for a little on the side is he?
Hey, if Chavez is funding Al-Qaeda and Castro, why not old Jesse Jackson. OTOH. Might be a good time to carryout the Robertson fatwa. ;^)
I wonder if Chaves will fall for the "Reparations for
Disenfranchised Afrozuelans".
Fatwa? Hey, who are you calling fat? You could get busted for that you know!
Ol Jesses smells money.
So Pat sent him down there huh?
Ol' Jesse smells cameras. Even the US media has tired of his insatiable need, however, so the good Reverend has to pal it up with petty dictators if he wants to strike a pose.
Jack Daniels good too.
Good! Maybe we can revoke his visa and passport while he's there.
The "toadlike" Jackson has never met a brutal communist dictator that he didn't like.
it's like degrees of kevin bacon--Venezuelans spit at Nixon when he was VP and jackson spit in food when he was younger..what a jerk
