Masai Barefoot Technology footwear transforms normal level surfaces into a soft and uneven surface (like walking barefoot on irregular natural surfaces such as dirt and sand), creating a challenging new "terrain" that greatly improves gait and posture. The unique multi-layerd [sic] construction transforms normal level walking surfaces, and thereby stimulating the muscles of the lower extremities.

Since most of us walk with our bodies behind our center of gravity, hamstrings, buttocks, inner/outer thigh and abdominal muscles have atrophied as a result. To conteract this, the Swiss inventor devised a means to render walking as inefficient as possible (and outright difficult). Users of MBT equipment will initially experience fatigue and muscle soreness in the feet, ankles, calfs, hamstrings, upper and inner thighs, stomach and back (brings to mind Cruel Shoes - as advertised by Dan Acroyd - fad from a few years back). For extra effect wear your MBTs on uneven surfaces such as dirt, gravel, and sand.

For a mere $125 a piece you too can strap an exercise program to each of your feet. Each pair come complete with an instructional CD familiarizing you on the proper operatoin of your shoes.

That doesn't sound like progress to me.

Thanks, but I'll keep my Doc Martens and Chuck Taylor's.
