Having lived at Cannon and Clovis for seven years, I can say that's it's not high on anyone's list of places to get transferred to! There's nothing like the smell of the stockyards during the summer and the closest thing to a city is Lubbock or Amarillo.

Don't forget Billy the Kid's grave!

And Albuquerque is just 3 lovely hours away.

I am from the Phoenix 944th Med Squadron, and the only beef I have with Cannon is that they were telling everyone that Luke should be closed down instead of Cannon, that being said, if they keep Cannon open it is closer to the border and maybe it could be used as a holding area for illegals. Just a thought..........

"Don't forget that ...ole slick willie ... kept a base open to please one of his cronies."

I do remember that outrageous decision, although I can't at the moment remember the specific base; I vaguely recall that it was in California but could be mistaken. But that just provides evidence for the original point that this BRAC *commission* appears to be motivated - more than previous commissions - by issues (like local economic impact) unrelated to military value. At least in the case you mention, the BRAC commission did its job properly and was overruled by the Commander in misChief.

With no outrage from the media. Imagine if President Bush decided to ignore one of the BRAC decisions.

Well, now with that problem out of the way and resolved, the good people of Clovis, NM can get on with more important things, like:

avoiding future burrito panics

protecting the public from obscene devil comic bumper stickers

locking up over-the-counter cold medication

rescuing prairie dogs; and

implementing their own, and advocating a state-wide smoking ban

(I can get away with this, 'cause that's my home town).

Spent the worse 1 year, 2 weeks and 3 days of my AF career at Cannon. Within the AF, it is not considered a choice assignment. Many call it Minot without the snow.
