AUSTIN Gov. Rick Perry has reached out to 10,000 Texans by e-mail asking for their support of a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as between a man and a woman.
In turn, an anti-amendment group sent out 10,000 mailers to Democrats accusing Perry and fellow Republicans of attacking gay and lesbian families.
Perry's e-mail, sent Tuesday, said: "That marriage is the union between a man and a woman is a truth known to each one of us already, and any attempt to allow same-sex marriages is a detriment to the family unit and hurts our state and nation."
The Texas Marriage Alliance relayed the e-mail through its Web site, which was started this year in support of Proposition 2.
The anti-amendment group, No Nonsense in 2006, paid for a mailing to past Travis County Democratic Party donors questioning the "unnecessary and divisive amendment."
The mailer said that Perry and "the Republican Legislature are running a shell game with an unnecessary, dangerous attack on our constitution and Texas families."
Proposition 2 is among nine amendments on the Nov. 8 ballot.
That might help a few more make a decision to switch to the Republican party.
Homosexual Agenda Ping.
Good news from Texas. I assume this proposed amendment will be voted on by actual Texas voters? It'll be interesting to see how huge the margin it wins by.
Note: Scripter and I are both going to be running this ping list for a while, so if you see any relevant articles please ping BOTH of us, and freepmail BOTH of us if you want on/off this pinglist.
Duh. I just read the last sentence. It is already on the ballot and voters will get to have their say.
Sheesh, even OREGON voters voted to protect marriage! Can you imagine Texas?
Gee...the sodomites seem offended.
I like that Perry is doing this but what are the chances he knows he is in trouble for being "squishy" on illegal immigrants so he is going to the playbook of the 2004 election to save his hide in the next election?
Rick is going to take his hair and build a road to nowhere.
Rick perry for Govenor! He has great hair and wants a road to nowhere!
(Political advertisement paid for by Texans for really nice hair and roads that go to nowhere)
My thoughts exactly. That $5 brain with a $50 haircut mounted on it that TX uses for a Govenrnor is trying to shore up his conservative creds before the election.
Frankly, it's time the government got out of the marriage business altogether.
A salient distinction. Well said Sir !!
"Gay marriage" is the skunk that keeps following the Democrats around, and which they stupidly want to adopt as a pet.
That, and he knows he is personally vulnerable on the gay issue, so he goes on the offensive.
A bit like the gay jock beating up the effeminite gay and calling him "queer."
(And yes, I am "for" the amendment. Just don't think much of Ms. Perry.)
So is Massachusetts a state. San Fransicko is only a city! And there is always a liberal JP who might want to make the national news.
My brother and I agreed over some beers last month that in 2006 Kinky Freidman may be the best one running for Governor. And that is just sad.
You are willing to let church courts resolve inheritance disputes?
Freidman just wants to sell records. His ideas are stupid.
Plus, I got pissed off at his stunt at the Alamo --- mainly because it is literally the grave of many brave men, including my grandfather's grandfather. (Actually they were burned where the hotel next door is, but same idea.)
He'd be a Texas Jesse Ventura.
I, to do not think he is a good choice, just the best one running. Perry and Chris Bell both blow chunks.
Ping me whenever you hear the results of this would ya? I'd like to see the margin myself.
Are there 10,000 Democrats in Texas who can read English?
