David had faith in God, yet he made war on the enemies of Israel, as did Joshua. Scripture does not equate the actions taken by nations in their defense with private citizens rebelling against their rulers.

Pat Robertson, a private American citizen, was not talking about private action against Chavez, but covert measures by the United States government against Venezuela, which has a hostile government. Mainstream Christian theology has discussed at length the theory of just war, and circumstances exist where nations are justified in using violence in their own defense.

Surely, it is unreasonable to say that President Kennedy was unjustified in authorizing the assassination of Fidel Castro. Both our nation and Cuba would have been better off had those attempts succeeded.

I agree with you, in part. Wars, though ugly and destructive, certainly can be justified, as currently in Iraq. I would even say that there may be situations of evil that would be similar to acts of war that would justify assassination. However, to many - like it or not - Pat Robertson represents an evangelical leader. As such, it seems thoroughly foolish to sort of mindlessly pop off about such an issue.

Robertson, Swaggart, and Falwell have made any number of ill-advised remarks over the years that have adversely impacted the name of Christ. By now there is no excuse not to know beyond a doubt the effect their words can have in the MSM.
