FYI : Look in upper right corner of "My Comments" page.
Set it for "Brief" instead of Full.
You only will get title of thread and who pinged you.
No graphics will load.

WE PRAY FOR OUR LOVED ONES

We pray, oh Lord, for our loved ones
Far away from us now in a foreign land
Fighting to keep us safe, to keep our way of life.

Let freedom be the sacred promised word
Especially for those children
Now living in these times
Trapped in this violent storm
Called war and terror.

May they be given time to grow up in a world
That will offer them peace and freedom.
Let us now, oh Lord,

Stand firm and strong in our beliefs.

Let we not forget our duty to our homeland,
Our loved ones so far away from loving arms.

For in these, our darkest of days,
We shall endure. We shall stand tall.

We shall be strong. We shall carry on,
Keeping the memory of all those who have
Given their lives, fighting to keep freedom alive.

God Bless all men and women
Over in Iraq this night --
May God Bless and watch over them.
Amen.

Deus vobiscum

Hey, what do you know, I'm going to get at least one done!

The Good Stuff for 25 August, 2005

The Word
""I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power. By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just; by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth."--Proverbs 8:12-16

The Quote
"Our choice is not between a unipolar world and a multipolar world. Our choice is for a just, free, and democratic world." --Vice President Dick Cheney

The Joke

The Hero--Today’s Medal of Honor Recipient

JOHN G. K. AYERS
Rank and organization: Private, Company H, 8th Missouri Infantry
Place and date:At Vicksburg, Mississippi, 22 May 1863.
Entered service at: Pekin, Tazwell County, Illinois.
Birth: Washlinaw, Michigan
Date of issue: 31 August 1895.
Citation: Gallantry in the charge of the "volunteer storming party."

As usual, I'm proud of this Illinois boy! This text is from HomeofHeroes.com:
The Vicksburg campaign was waged from March 29 to July 4, 1863. It included battles in west-central Mississippi at Port Gibson, Raymond, Jackson, Champion Hill, Big Black River and numerous smaller battle fields. On the morning of May 22, General Grant launched what he hoped would be a crushing assault against Vicksburg. In the fighting that followed, the Union Infantry was repulsed and thrown back along a three-mile front. The Union Army suffered more than 3,000 casualties, and 97 Union soldiers earned Medals of Honor (the second largest single-day total in history.) Private John Ayers was one of eighty soldiers cited simply for "Gallantry in the charge of the 'volunteer storming party,' seemingly innocuous wording that actually denotes the fact that Private Ayers was at the head of his attacking force where the enemy fire was hottest and the danger the greatest.
Following the failed assault on May 22, a forty-seven day siege was laid against the city, which finally surrendered to Union forces on July 4.
I'm told that it would be several decades before Vicksburg again held any celebration of Independence Day.
