Difficult to say. Depending on what armed service you join.
Certainly there is less chance of being killed if you join the Air Force than if you join the Marine Corps.
When I went to Nam, I told my girlfriend at the time to not plan on me returning. Of course we were losing thousands a month in Nam in 1969.
But if you are in a grunt unit, there is a very good chance that you may be WIA(wounded in action) and I have met several Marines who have had one or more tours in Iraq who have one or more PH's. And every one of them was eager to get back to their units in Iraq. But you know there are some things worse than dying. LOL

BTW, if you are concerned about dying, I wouldn't join the armed services if I were you.
People who have a fear of dying have a tendency of making HUGE mistakes under fire(like running away LOL) which endangers their fellow combatants.

PS when your time comes and the Big Guy upstairs punches your ticket, it really doesn't matter what your profession is...just make sure your "house is in order." End of sermon. LOL

"The Army is already far ahead of the pace needed to reach its goal of persuading 64,162 current enlisted men, from privates to top sergeants, to commit to additional service."
Are there statistics for the reenlistment rate for women?
