Here we go again.
"Close the bases, shrink the military, we don't need a large military."
We went through this once after Vietnam and had to regrow the military when it became obvious that shrinking it was a bad idea.

"Close the bases, shrink the military, we don't need a large military." AFAIK, this is "Close the bases and reposition the current military." Sorry, but an unneccessary base remaining open amounts to a federal welfare program for the local population.

I don't know that closing the bases is shrinking our military capacity. The number of folks and the missions would be more relevant. Places like Fort Bragg and Camp Pendleton can take on significantly more numbers, while closed bases like Miramar (not on the list) would be a tremendous asset to the community.
Weren't the bases and locations designed for World War II needs. Can't we do the job with fewer locations?

Nobody is shrinking the military, they are closing unnecessary and consolidating some bases. Where's that whiny chick from Texarkana? What does she think of this outcome?
