The Department of Homeland Security, responding to a state of emergency declared last week by Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano because of illegal immigration, says it wants to help Arizona combat alien smuggling, ease related prison overcrowding and train state police officers. "We are moving forward quickly and aggressively to fashion a comprehensive plan with real solutions," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told the governor in a letter delivered Monday. He said the agency wants to "build a partnership with Arizona." Mr. Chertoff said yesterday that his agency was examining how best to tighten U.S. borders while catching, detaining and deporting illegal aliens already in the country. The review is expected in the next several weeks. "I think this is very promising," Miss Napolitano said during a visit yesterday to Washington. "We're finally seeing some movement. I look forward to speaking with Secretary Chertoff. It's finally nice to get something in writing." Miss Napolitano, who released $1.5 million in emergency funds to help Cochise, Pima, Santa Cruz and Yuma counties combat an influx of illegal aliens, had accused the federal government of failing to secure the border, saying rising illegal immigration threatened the public's safety and health. She also was critical of the federal government's unwillingness to reimburse state and local governments for the cost of apprehending, prosecuting and detaining illegal aliens who commit crimes in Arizona. In February, she sent the Justice Department a bill for $217 million for incarcerating criminal aliens, a request to which the department did not respond. Arizona is the nation's most popular immigration corridor, accounting for about half of the 1.15 million illegal aliens apprehended last year. A flood of illegals into Arizona has resulted in a huge rise in crime statewide, as well as an explosion of violence on the border

It only took Chertoff's boss, Dub'ya, ten years to pretend to act on this letter.
Excellent find!
Thanks for posting it.
"We are moving forward quickly and aggressively to fashion a comprehensive plan with real solutions,"
Quote from the 'Standard Book of Elementary Bureaucratic Responses', said to have been first issued in 1450 BC in ancient Egypt,
and in continuous use ever since. . .
Well we heard Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday nail the "Los Alamos Loser," Gov. Richardson on backing driver's licenses and in state tuition for illegals in NM! Richardson made the "Duck of the Day!" LOL
12 years after the first WTC bombing and almost 4 years after 9/11...
Ya think there is anyone left in Mexico who hasn't already illegally immigrated to America? LMAO
There are numerous articles on this topic this morning. The one in The New York Times reveals that Chertoff has no intention of doing the one thing that everybody knows would be most effective from an enforcement perspective which is to start enforcing the law against the criminals who are giving the illegals jobs. Without workplace enforcement, what Chertoff is saying is just a steaming pile of insincere BS.
For several weeks there have been reports that the Bush Administration was building a coalition of the Open Borders Lobby to sell his "I'm against Amnesty" amnesty and his guest worker third world importation plan so that his rich elite campaign contributing buddies will have an ample supply of poor serfs to exploit.
In my opinion, these long overdue but insincere and unbelievable enforcement noises coming out of Chertoff are just lip-service to enforcement and the opening gambit in the Bush Shamnesty sales effort.
Well if GWB & the GOP don't get on the stick, the GOP will lose BIG TIME in 2006...and continue to lose in '08!
Pols are mostly slim. Nappy loves the voters to be ignorant of the reality. The left is the cancer within that is destroying this Republic. Bush should be all over the news telling the Mexican govt the absolute true. He should tell them in no uncertain terms are utterly corrupt. When 40% of a country want to leave something is wrong. Bush should say the Mexican govt has failed its people. Bush should tell them to import radical capitalism to fix their socialist hell hole. Because of PC no one can speak openly and directly. The problem is the simple fact that a Socialistic corrupt, leftist country is just South of us. We should build a 100 ft wall asap. The left in the US is happy for the influx. They want to see our country destroyed.
Need a great wall of America and cameras all on it with checkpoints for actuallegal folks to pass through.
I agree with you 100 percent, unfortunately I don't think W has the stones to do what needs to be done regarding the borders and illegals...but I would be happily proved wrong! LOL
Not going to happen.
never say never...
remember we recalled the Dimwit Davis when the GOP said "no way it would happen"...
It may happen that the borders are closed, but it won't come from this administration, and it won't come from a Hillary administration, or anyone else likely to get elected.
The entire governmental beauracracy must be replaced in order for anything positive to happen.
We are under the rule of Transnational Progressives in both parties.
