Yes, I certainly agree and have also argued on other threads that there are loads and loads of careerists in State, CIA, and other intel agencies (and Clintonlite political appointees who are holdovers or who burrowed into civil service positions) who desperately want a lot of failures of the past decade to be covered up and/or forgotten. The vicious public salvos from Joe Wilson, Richard Clarke et al are just the most visible aspect of the war that's going on within both government and media -- a war for control of past, present and future. The people like Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame who remain burrowed into the bureaucracies cannot allow Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Goss to succeed.... no matter what the cost to accurate intel or our national security, there are many many lib dinosaurs who are trying to have the last word. They must be vanquished NOW.

And that is why the Iraq / Al Queda connection is so dangerous. And it may become even worse if it is shown that not only is it a "Muslim thing" but that it can also be traced back to the non-acknowledged activities by the Soviet Union and its proxies.

Wow, good info there. That makes things a bit clearer with regard to what we're really facing. This isn't just an isolated failure on the part of Gorelick, but a systemic problem, an infestation of thought that goes back to McCarthy's suspicions.

The task of uprooting such a beast will likely cause huge bureaucratic upheaval, so the status quo guys who just want to protect their careers will likely also side with the malevolent elements.

The more that comes out, the more we see what Schaffer, et al is really coming up against. These guys are patriots, no doubt. I certainly hope the leadership, Rumsfeld, Goss, Rice, etc. decide to push this thing forward.
